What a lovely coincidence that in the middle of Mary's month we honor Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day! This is a joyous celebration of the simplest, purest and most profound of all human loves - mother and child.
Yet, this day brings sadness, too. There are many women who long for a baby but cannot conceive. We hear constantly of children mistreated by their mothers and women who abort their babies. Many folks will face this holiday in grief because their mother has died. But, no matter where we find ourselves emotionally, we give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of our mothers. The honoring of our parents is such an important truth; God made it one of the Ten Commandments.
We've had some major Parish events recently: Confirmation on April 29, four First Communions in the previous two weekends, a great Spaghetti Dinner at St. Felix, a Scholarship Dinner sponsored by the Angel Guild at Holy Family, the Kentucky Derby party at St. Cecilia's (my horse was NOT disqualified) and the annual Mother-Daughter Breakfast at Saints Peter and Paul. We try, but your clergy team cannot possibly attend everything, especially on Sundays.
My point is to thank everyone involved in the planning and presentation of these events. These are wonderful events with delicious food and many lovely little details. It's obvious that a great deal of attention, care and labor has produced this all. So thank you, thank you everyone. These events should make us all proud of our parish.
Memorial Day will be here before we know it. Each church has a Mass:
7:30 a.m. Saints Peter and Paul
8:30 a.m. Holy Family
9:00 a.m. St. Felix
9:00 a.m. St. Cecilia
